Conserving water today: a key challenge for securing our resources tomorrow

On World Water Day, celebrated on March 22, one key message stands out: every drop counts. In the face of climate challenges and the gradual scarcity of this vital resource, water management and conservation are becoming major priorities. Whether for agriculture, communities, or infrastructure, optimizing storage and minimizing losses is now essential to addressing current environmental and economic challenges.

Lagoons full thanks to the rains: an opportunity not to be missed

In recent weeks, rainfall has filled many lagoons, highway retention basins, and stormwater retention basins. These stormwater reserves offer a valuable opportunity to prepare for periods of drought, particularly during the summer. As water needs for agriculture continue to rise, it is becoming crucial to conserve this resource effectively in order to mitigate shortages during the driest months.

Waterproofing of structures: an often-overlooked issue

Even if the lagoons and basins are full, one key question remains: are they truly watertight? Water loss due to seepage or leaks can be significant, compromising the efficiency of storage systems. The watertightness of lagoons, highway basins, and any stormwater retention basin is therefore a key issue in preventing water loss and ensuring sustainable resource management. Without a suitable solution, a significant portion of this stored water may be lost before it is even used.

COLMATEK™: An innovative solution for sustainable water conservation

To address these challenges, COLMATEK™ offers a high-performance solution based on superabsorbent polymers capable of sealing leaks directly from the water’s surface. This innovative technology allows for the rapid reinforcement of lagoon liners without the need for major construction work or draining the structures. Tailored to the needs of the agricultural sector and infrastructure managers, it provides long-term protection for stormwater reserves and optimizes their conservation during periods of drought.

Quick and easy application and installation of COLMATEK™

The COLMATEK™ range consists of organic superabsorbent polymers that offer excellent swelling capacity and high elasticity, making them ideal for effectively addressing waterproofing issues in lagoons and ponds.

After identifying the areas of water leakage, the product is applied directly to the surface without first draining the stormwater retention basin or lagoons. Upon contact with water, COLMATEK™ activates immediately and forms sticky sheets that migrate to the bottom due to the natural suction generated by the leak or cracks.

Once in place, the product continues to expand until it effectively seals the defective area. Sediments and organic debris present in the water then adhere to the treated surface, permanently reinforcing the seal and providing a long-lasting solution to preserve stormwater reserves, particularly in highway basins and agricultural structures.
